Entrance Finger Scans
How are finger scans used at Universal Orlando Resort™?
We scan your finger at our entrance turnstiles the first time you use an admission ticket. On subsequent visits we will rescan your finger to verify that you are using the same ticket. This information helps facilitate re-entry and prevent fraud.
What information is collected as part of the finger scan?
Using a scanner, the software scans swirls and arcs of the finger to create a grid of intersecting points. These points are then stored as a series of coordinating numbers only. When the finger is scanned again, the number series will repeat and match itself to the stored original. As this information is stored as a number only, a fingerprint image cannot be recreated from the stored information.
Are all guests required to submit to a finger scan?
If you don't want to submit to a finger scan, please notify the attendant at the entrance. You will be required to carry and show a photo ID.
How is Photo Validation used at Universal Orlando Resort™?
Universal Orlando Resort™ uses photo validation technology to verify Universal Express™ tickets and ticket holders – making it faster and more seamless for you to experience everything we have to offer.
We scan your facial image in the Universal Express™ attraction queue line the first time you use an admission ticket or other admission media. On subsequent visits we will rescan your facial image to verify that you are using the same ticket. This information helps facilitate re-entry and prevent fraud.
What information is collected as part of Photo Validation?
Photo validation technology is a system capable of verifying a person from a digital image. It compares selected facial features to an existing image. It is similar to a person checking a photo ID, but uses a faster and more automated system. The photo validation system collects a low-resolution image. From that image, the software builds a template. A template is a set of data points based on facial features. Both the low-resolution image and templates are securely stored by Universal Orlando Resort™.
Is Photo Validation a form of facial recognition?
A facial recognition system identifies an individual based solely on an individual’s facial features. Our photo validation system compares facial images solely for the purposes of validating that a Universal Express™ ticket is used by the same individual; it cannot identify an individual in the absence of the ticket associated with the photo.
Are Universal Express™ participants required to use photo validation?
You may visit Guest Services to opt-out of the Photo Validation process. You will be instructed to carry and show a photo ID. Team Members will validate your entry at each attraction with a visual check of your Universal Express™ ticket and photo ID.
Attraction Locker Finger Scans
Free attraction lockers are available to store loose articles at select attractions throughout the parks. These free attraction lockers may require a finger scan to register you and permit access to your locker. The information from this finger scan is solely used to verify your identity and to prevent unauthorized access to your locker. Additional lockers which do not require a finger scan are available for an additional rental fee inside the main entrance to each park.
